Eligibility Criteria for a New Zealand Student Visa

1. Enrollment in an Approved Education ProviderYou must be enrolled in an approved full-time course at a New Zealand institution, in a university, polytechnic, private training institution or secondary school. You need to give the evidence that you are enrolled in a university such as offer letter.
2. Financial ResourcesYou need to prove that you have sufficient financial resources to cover your tuition fees and living expenses till the time you are studying in New Zealand. The minimum amount required is NZD $20,000 for each year of study (or NZD $1,667 per month if your program is less than 12 months).
3. You can show proof of your funds by giving:
   • Bank statements
   • Sponsorship letters (if someone else is funding your studies)
   • A financial guarantee from your education provider or the government.
4. Additionally, you will need to show that you have funds to support them if you plan to bring your family members with you.
5. Health and Travel Insurance: You must maintain comprehensive health and travel insurance for the entire duration of your stay in New Zealand. It is required for the visa application and also by most educational institutions in New Zealand.
6. English Language ProficiencyYou may need to elaborate your English Language Proficiency through standardized tests such as IELTS, TOEFL or PTE Academic. Though, minimum scores vary by the institution, but typically, an IELTS score of 5.5 or higher is required for undergraduate programs.
7. Health and Character Requirements
   • Health Requirements: You must undergo a medical examination and submit a medical certificate to prove that you are in good health. You will also need to provide a chest X-ray certificate if you are planning to stay for more than 12 months.
   • Character Requirements: You must provide a police certificate from your home country (or any country you have lived in for more than five years since turning 17) to demonstrate good character and show that you have no significant criminal convictions.
